LOOTING OF ANTIQUITIES AND WORKS OF ART

The Bulgars sacked numerous churches in the regions occupied by them and sent the church furniture and ornaments to Bulgaria. The churches of the areas of Serres, Zichne, Drama, Kavalla, Komotine, Xanthe, Alexandroupolis, suffered most and among them the famous monastery of Rikosifolinisse of the region of Drama, and Stavropigadaki the Monastery of John the Precursor, of the region of Serres.
